OMNIPRESSENT
01 — The Press

A short list, published properly.

We publish a small number of specialist non-fiction titles a year. Small enough that every one of them gets a real structural edit, a designed cover and a launch somebody is actually accountable for.

How the press works

We are a publisher, not a printer.

The distinction matters more than it used to. A printer takes your file and your money and gives you boxes of books. A publisher takes a risk on the book, improves it, produces it, gets it into the places readers buy, and carries the cost of doing so.

Omnipressent pays for publication, not the author. There is no contribution, no package, no tiered service level. If your book is on our list it is because we expect it to find its readers, and we have put our own money behind that expectation.

What we publish

Specialist non-fiction, in categories narrow enough that a genuinely good book can become the book. Business and strategy from operators rather than commentators. Practitioner and trade titles in fields nobody has yet served properly. Narrative non-fiction that is reported, not assembled. Reference and series work that gets revised and recommended for years.

We do not currently publish fiction, poetry, children’s books or memoir without a strong subject hook. Saying that plainly saves everyone a fortnight.

What you get

  • Structural edit. The pass that decides whether the book works. Argument, order, what to cut, what is missing.
  • Line edit and proof. Two separate jobs, done by two separate people, because they genuinely are.
  • Cover and interior design. Designed for the shelf it is competing on and the thumbnail it will mostly be seen at.
  • Production. Print, ebook and audio, with the formats chosen to suit the book rather than the invoice.
  • Metadata and categories. Treated as a discipline. For discoverability this is close to being the product.
  • Distribution. Trade, online retail and direct, plus rights conversations where the book warrants them.

Submissions

Send a one-page pitch, a chapter outline and one sample chapter. Tell us who the reader is and what they are buying instead today — that single paragraph tells us more than a polished synopsis does.

We read everything and we answer everyone, usually within three weeks. A no from us comes with the reason, which is worth having even if it stings.

Not sure it is a book yet?

Plenty of good books start as an argument the author cannot stop making. Tell us the argument and who needs to hear it, and we will tell you whether there is a book in it.
